VisiFlora Ingredients: What Is Actually in It

All 22 ingredients in VisiFlora, grouped by function, explained in plain language with links to the published research behind each one. No proprietary blend — every amount is individually disclosed on the label.

Group 1: Antioxidant Defense

The retina is one of the most metabolically active tissues in the body and is constantly exposed to light-driven oxidative stress. This group supports the eye's natural antioxidant defenses.

Astaxanthin

A carotenoid antioxidant studied for its ability to cross the blood-retinal barrier. Clinical trials using 4–9mg/day have found improved accommodation and reduced subjective eye strain after 4 weeks of use. See our astaxanthin deep dive.

Vitamin C & Vitamin E

Core antioxidants supporting capillary function and cellular defense against oxidative damage — foundational nutrients in the NEI's AREDS2 formulation.

Copper & Selenium

Trace minerals that support antioxidant enzyme activity, included in the AREDS2 formula alongside zinc to help balance mineral absorption.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Notable for its ability to "recycle" other antioxidants like Vitamin C and E after they've neutralized free radicals, extending their protective effect.

Group 2: Gut-Barrier Support

This is the formula's newer, more research-emerging angle — see our full gut-eye connection guide for the science behind why these are included.

Grape Seed Extract

A polyphenol studied for general antioxidant and vascular-support properties, included for its role in gut-barrier and inflammation research.

Quercetin & Rutin

Plant flavonoids with documented anti-inflammatory and vascular effects, relevant to both gut-barrier integrity and general circulatory support.

Taurine

An amino acid found in unusually high concentrations in retinal tissue specifically, studied for a possible protective role against oxidative stress.

Group 3: Circulation Support

Retinal tissue depends on steady blood flow to deliver oxygen and nutrients. See our ginkgo biloba and circulation guide for the full research breakdown, including studies with mixed results.

Ginkgo Biloba

One of the most-studied herbal extracts for circulation. Some trials show improved ocular blood flow velocity; others found no significant single-dose effect. Has mild blood-thinning properties — see our safety page.

Coleus Forskohlii

A traditional botanical studied in eye-pressure and circulatory research contexts.

Group 4: Macular & Lens Protection

This is the most heavily researched group in the formula. See our lutein & zeaxanthin guide and bilberry extract guide for deep dives.

Lutein & Zeaxanthin

Carotenoids that accumulate specifically in the macula, studied as part of the NEI's AREDS2 formulation for AMD progression.

Zinc (11mg)

Plays a documented structural role in retinal tissue and supports vitamin A metabolism linked to low-light vision.

Bilberry Extract

A 2020 randomized, placebo-controlled trial found measurable ciliary muscle improvement after 12 weeks of 240mg/day use.

Vitamin A, Lycopene & Saffron Extract

Vitamin A supports night vision and the cornea; lycopene and saffron are studied for antioxidant protection of lens and retinal tissue respectively.

Eyebright

A traditional botanical long used to support general eye comfort and optic nerve function.
